Remodel

Again, as said on our main page...we here at Rock The Net Caffe have the greatest respect for The Gamerz. We poke fun at them here, but it is meant to be in good fun rather than mean spirited.  Please take it in the manner we meant it.

That being said, let us take you through our remodeling of the facility.  Feel free to click on any thumbnail for a bigger version.

To begin with, we're going to look at the front area.

When we first rented the shop, it still had the previous owner's logo in the window, and was done up in his paint scheme.

In this picture you can see Doug making "off with their head!" signs, with Clyde's reflection in the window taking the picture.

We don't want to upset anyone, but the blue and white and gold just HAD TO GO!

Here's Doug again leaning on the original counter in "Bay One", or the front reception area.  This is the biggest single area of the shop, and we really wanted to make better use of this space by putting something attractive out here.

We decided on putting a stage in the window (where Clyde was standing to take the picture) and put Rock Band up on the stage.  That should draw in a crowd!

We'll save you more horrific pictures of the previous facility ... instead ... here's Doug framing the stage.  See the tape line?  That's how everything started...masking tape on the floor.

Implements of construction and destruction litter the floor...wonder why?

Here's Clyde and Adam finishing the framing of the stage.  Doug stole the camera and took a picture while they weren't looking...

Bent wood on the front, but the glare looked awful.  We were worried that we would have to put a curtain in that window to cut it out.  Fortunately, it's not as bad as it looks in this picture, and we were able to get away without it.  However, a stage curtain is still coming, to give us the option when we want it.

Notice the tape line behind Clyde?  That's the first draft of our main counter and desk.  Keep an eye on that area...it gets better!

Here's what Doug was doing while Adam and Clyde finished the stage.  We needed the windows to be all the same height, which required framing (and plaster, and sanding...).

Follow the yellow brick road!  Follow the yellow brick road!

OK, it's really the countertop...but it was a fun fantasy while it lasted.  Here it is set out.  Believe it or not, Clyde cut those curves with his circular saw!

The carpet is going, as is the linoleum in the front.  Rough cuts at first, but it's getting there.

Here's the (more or less) completed stage.  It needs to be painted, trimmed out, etc, but it's looking really good as is.

We got the boards in the window for fifty-one cents each.  Don't ask!  They've come in useful for about a zillion things, but blocking the windows for privacy was one of the earliest uses.

Clyde and Doug, partners in crime <ahem> ... proprietors of the new gaming center in Lebanon.

"Open Soon" ... notice, no dates, no names, no nothing.  We want to build suspense amongst the crowd.

First side of the counter is framed and up.  This is going to be our candy and soda area.  We expect such items to be big sellers.

Notice the big water jug in the center of the room.  It turned out to be a necessity.  With the dust from construction, it was getting pretty dry in the shop.

Two big men in an itty bitty space!  Lets just say that framing out shelves in the desk side of the counter was not as fun as it looked (especially when that upper shelf you see fell on Clyde's head...but he didn't flinch...much...)

Framing out the Bat'leth Desk.  Since there needs to be room for legs and feet under the desk part, we had to get creative on how to support it.

After we were done, Doug sat on it.  it flexed (and Clyde cringed), but it held.

The Bat'leth Desk in all it's glory.  Clyde stands back to survey the work.

Top tier is for customer interaction, middle tier for monitors, and bottom tier for keyboard/mouse.  SWEET setup!

Here's a shot of the desk after we put the front on it.  It's really starting to come together.

And here's Doug working on the website, on the nearly completed desk.  The floor is down, and the room is nearly finished and ready to "Open Soon".

Now, on to the other bays:

The computer bays were the (gag) blue and white.  Boring, boring, boring.

We want to give Lebanon gamers a place that is a cut above, but this place just needs to be cut...and soon!

In the foreground, you can see the chairs the previous owner left behind.  While they are not the prettiest, they are acceptable, so we decided to use them until they die and we need to replace them.

Custom desks ... we're not going to put the PC's on the desks, because we want to reduce damage / theft opportunities.  Instead, we're going to mount the PC's on the wall and run cables to the stations.

Here's Adam finally getting to cover up that awful blue.  We have a better, cleaner, white to handle the white trim as well.

Here's Doug looking at the desks in place.  We're debating if the top is smooth enough to deal with a mouse and keyboard (note the wonderful look on his face).

And here are the (nearly) finished desks.  High contrast is a good thing.  The black and white is warmer and much more inviting than the blue was.
